Robbie and Christine met at Pensacola Christian College and were
immediately drawn together by a common burden for the foreign
mission field. Robbie had answered the call to missions as a freshman
at PCC in 1996, and Christine had surrendered
at the age of fourteen at a youth conference.
After graduation, Robbie and Christine headed to Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Christine had grown
up. Robbie taught third grade, and Christine taught high school English at Raleigh Christian Academy. After they were married
in the summer of 2002, they continued to serve in the church by
working on a bus route and teaching a Hispanic children’s
class.
During their three years working at Beacon Baptist, Robbie and Christine
gained valuable experience needed for the mission field. They raised their support in less than a year, took a language course in Costa Rica, and moved to El Progreso, Honduras, in January, 2005. They were able to begin a Bible study on the porch of one of the new converts in April of 2005.The believers later began to meet every Sunday and Wednesday in a house rented for the services.
Not only has the work shown significant growth, the Ellis family has grown as well--in August of 2006, Elisabeth Claire was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. In 2007, Team Honduras was able to purchase 11 acres on the north side of El Progreso, the future site of Iglesia Bautista El Faro. Plans for a Christian school and a children's home are also underway.
The Ellises have their next furlough planned for October through December of 2008. For information about scheduling or contacting them during this time, please write to christine@teamhonduras.com.
